Housing Executive to be abolished – 14 January 2013
The Northern Ireland Housing Executive is to be broken up after 40 years after new plans outlined by Nelson McCausland, Minister for Social Development. The Department for Social Development will take responsibility for overall housing strategy, policy, legislation and funding, plus regulation and inspection. The House Executive’s 90,000 houses will now be transferred to housing associations in an attempt to attract private investment. The department will also establish an independent social housing rent panel which will agree annual rent levels based on a rental policy.
