Restaurants face fines for immigration law offences – 4 November 2013
Officers from the Home Office paid a visit to The Captain’s Table in Newtownabbey and Zara’s Indian restaurant in Antrim town last Thursday.
They questioned individuals to check if they had the right to be in the UK.
At Zara’s, on Market Square, authorities arrested a 43-year-old Indian man who had overstayed his visa, while a 28-year-old Bangladeshi man who was working without permission was dismissed from employment. The business faces a potential £20,000 fine.
Meanwhile, at The Captain’s Table, a 24-year-old Guyana man was arrested for working illegally – resulting in potential penalties of £10,000 for the Carnmoney Road chippie.
